Are They Crazy?

During the past couple of weeks, two news reports from the scientific community have me wondering.

The first and most shocking comes from a position paper published by two science “ethicists” here in Australia, stating that “newborn babies ‘aren’t people’ and it is therefore acceptable to kill them”. Authors Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva, both from the University of Melbourne, suggest that “after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where the law allows abortion, including cases where the newborn is not disabled.”

Whilst I follow their perverted logic, the argument is really one that should cause the community to question all abortion. Most anti-abortionists would argue that a baby becomes a person at the moment of conception. (Jer 1:5-7; Gal 1:15-16) These two are suggesting that a baby becomes a person at some ill-defined time following birth.

Are they crazy?

Ok, whilst still being repulsed by this bit of shocking evil, along comes a report from another part of the science world.

“Dolphins deserve human rights.”

That’s the statement being made by scientists at Emory University in Atlanta, who say that the mammals are so intelligent they deserve the status of “non-human persons.” After years of studying dolphin brains, the researchers have concluded that aquatic mammals are more mentally advanced than chimpanzees, placing them second only to humans. Lori Marino, a zoologist at Emory, says that there is a strong “psychological continuity” between humans and dolphins that requires they be given the status of equals. Thomas White, a philosopher at Loyola Marymount University in Redondo Beach, California, made the argument that dolphins aren’t merely like people—they may actually be people, or at least, “nonhuman persons,” as he described them.

So let me get this right – new born babies are not people, but dolphins are. What absolute nonsense!

This completely denies the creation account (Genesis 1:26) where God makes a significant distinction between mankind and all other living creatures. Man was created in God’s image, but it’s blasphemous to imply that so were Dolphins, or any other creatures.

Are they crazy?

No – they are not crazy. They are simply reflecting the depravity of human nature without God. Their perverted thinking is what we should expect from people who live without the constraints of Christian influence, indeed without any apparent awareness of God, the creator of life (John 1:3).

All believers should pray that the general scientific community would awake to the error that results from their atheistic Richard Dawkins thinking.
