High Octane Calvinism
Speaking of Calvinism, I like what Douglas Wilson has to say about the grace & works dilemma and how “High Octane Calvinism” is the only solution. How can we balance our focus on God’s grace, and also our focus on obedience and discipleship? Watch here for his answer.
Living Effective Lives for God
“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11) How do we mature in our faith as Christians? What…
Faith and Assurance
© Shawn Hempel – Fotolia.com In a book I was reading this week, there was a distinction made between faith and assurance. The author certainly asserted that not only is there such a thing in the Bible as assurance, but that it is most earnestly to be desired and sought. However he made it clear that in his opinion, and the opinion of many authors (he quoted 30!),…
The Sinfulness of Sin
Nothing, I am convinced, will astonish us so much, when we awake in the resurrection day, as the view we shall have of sin and the retrospect we shall take of our own countless shortcomings and defects. Never till the hour when Christ comes the second time shall we fully realize the ‘sinfulness of sin’.
Evangelism
We normally don’t require any strategy for talking about things about which we are passionate. Most of us could go on infinitum about our favorite sports team. We are not trying to land a ‘knock-out punch’ here, or close the sale. That’s God’s job. So why not simply tell others, “One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”? (John 9:25). There is nothing as…
Justified by the Resurrection

Jesus’ resurrection spells the end for this creation; it shows us that judgement is nigh; and it means that the new creation is just around the corner.

God Justifies the Ungodly, by C.H.Spurgeon
He makes those just who are unjust, forgives those who deserve to be punished, and favours those who deserve no favour. You thought, did you not, that salvation was for the good, that God’s grace was for the pure and holy, who are free from sin?

How Did People go to Heaven Before Jesus’ Death and Resurrection? (re-posted)
OT people were saved by faith in God. They believed God’s word as much as was revealed to them, and knew their own sinfulness. In fact, the reason they would carry out the sacrifices, and the reason they would do all the things God told them to do was an outworking of an inward faith. It was not to…
A Prayer: Resurrection Promise
No one yet grasped that your mortal punishment would bring our eternal peace… your fatal wounding would secure our everlasting healing… your being crushed would lead to our being cherished by the thrice holy God (Isa 53:1-12). Though they had the Scriptures, they had no clue.
Grace – its Blessings
t is profitable to trace the blessings of grace in Ephesians – the epistle of grace where this characteristic keyword is used 13 times. Paul, the apostle of grace, reminds us that through grace we have –
