Wisdom’s Warning

Wisdom’s Warning

Complacency is the feeling of self-satisfaction without knowledge or awareness of the dangers or the deficiencies lurking in or outside of oneself. It is for this reason that Lewis Allen, in The Preacher’s Catechism, states that, for the Christian, “complacency is the Devil’s word”. In our study wisdom is personified as a lady who sounds the alarm toward all the simple who, in their complacency, procrastinate in following Christ. As a result, those who persist in ignoring her earnest calls will finally be rejected by God and come to ruin, while those who “listen to [Christ] will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster” (Prov 1:33).

Main Lesson: Those who reject Wisdom’s warning will destroy themselves while those who heed it will dwell secure and be at ease without dread of disaster.
