The Grace of Repentance | Genesis 44:1-34
After making his brothers bring Benjamin to Egypt, Joseph tested their loyalty by framing Benjamin for stealing the cup and blaming him for the theft. This caused the brothers to face their guilt before God and plead for mercy. In doing this Judah interceded on Benjamin’s behalf while willingly asking that Joseph punish him instead of Benjamin. Judah confirmed that true repentance for previous sin had taken place in his life. In this study we learn that reconciliation can only be achieved when God grants genuine repentance for sin that comes from a change of heart, mind and action.
- Genuine repentance requires a change of heart: Sorrow for sin (vv. 1-13)
- Genuine repentance requires a change of mind: Acknowledgement of guilt (vv. 14-17)
- Genuine repentance requires a change of action: Change that counts the cost (vv. 18-34)
