The Beauty of Submission in Marriage | Ephesians 5:22-24
Paul projects a vision in this passage (vv. 22-33) for a distinctively Christian marriage. He bases his instructions for each spouse not on what is appropriate in Roman culture, but on lessons that can be derived from the nature of the relationship between the church and Christ. Husbands are called to love their wives in the way Christ loved the church, and wives are called to recognise and follow the leadership their husbands provide. In this lesson we learn that a wife displays the beauty of the gospel in her marriage by willingly and joyfully submitting to her husband as to the Lord.
