Sealed and Secured | Eph 1:11-14

Having praised God the Father for choosing believers before the foundation of the world, and praised the Son for our present redemption in Christ and future inclusion in Christ’s consummation of all things, Paul moves to praise the Holy Spirit. He does this by referring to Jewish believers (“we”, v. 11), contrasting them to Gentile believers (“you”, v.13). Both are God’s allotted portion whom He sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is God’s sure guarantee of a future inheritance in Christ. This closes Paul’s extended praise as He calls us to offer the same to God (v. 14). In this study we learn that God’s desire is that we, as His people, would know our security in His love and power despite how unstable our world around us might be.

  1. God has saved us through His word of truth (v13a)
  2. God has sealed us with His Holy Spirit (v13b)
  3. God has guaranteed us as His inheritance (v14a)
  4. God has done all this for His glory (v14b)
