Jacob’s New and Faltering Life of Faith | Genesis 33

Jacob’s New and Faltering Life of Faith | Genesis 33

Though Jacob had initially planned to sacrifice part of his family in case of conflict with Esau and had treated his brother with deference, addressing him as his lord, Esau graciously welcomed Jacob home. Despite Esau’s generosity in reluctantly accepting Jacob’s gift and offering to accompany him to Seir, Jacob chose to deceive his brother by traveling to Succoth instead, where he settled down. In this study we learn that God’s people must remain steadfast in living by faith, just as they were saved through faith.

  3. Two steps backward: Jacob’s half-way obedience (v. 17)
  4. Three steps backward: Jacob’s drift (vv. 18-20)
