Jacob’s Blessing – Part 2: The Greatest Legacy | Genesis 49:13-33

Jacob’s Blessing – Part 2: The Greatest Legacy | Genesis 49:13-33

Jacob’s Blessing – Part 2: The Greatest Legacy | Genesis 49:13-33

In blessing his sons, Jacob foretold what would befall each and their descendants in the latter days. Each blessing was informed by each son’s unique character and confirmed what would occur to each of the associated tribes. In this process Jacob confirmed that his hope was in his God who had been his shepherd and his strength throughout all of his days. After blessing each of his sons Jacob requested his body be buried in the cave in Canaan, after which he died and was gathered to his people. In this study we learn that the greatest legacy we can give our children is not what we leave for them, but the blessings of God we lead them to trust and treasure.

  1.  Their future is in God’s hands (vv. 13-21, 27-28)
  2. Your hope is in God and not them (vv. 18, 24-25)
  3. Fruitfulness is found in following God alone (vv. 22-26)
  4. There is a day of gathering and reckoning (vv. 29-33)
