God’s Heart Surgery | Genesis 42:1-38

God’s Heart Surgery | Genesis 42:1-38

About twenty-two years after Joseph was thrown into a pit and sold into slavery by his brothers, he comes face-to-face with them again. This time he is in the position of governor over all the land of Egypt and his brothers had come to buy grain during the severe famine. To awaken the brothers’ consciences to their wrongdoing Joseph accused them of being spies, locked them up for three days, and withheld Simeon while sending his other brothers home to test their honesty to bring back Benjamin. In this study we learn that to make us spiritually healthy and effective, God uses severity and grace to awaken our consciences and bring us to true repentance.

  1. God prepares his patients (vv. 1-5)
  2. God’s heart surgery begins (vv. 6-26)
  3. God leaves the guilty exposed (vv. 27-37)
