God’s Electing Grace | Genesis 25:19-34

God’s Electing Grace | Genesis 25:19-34

After twenty years of barrenness God answered Isaac’s prayers and gave Rebekah two sons, Esau and Jacob, declaring that two nations would come from them and that the elder would serve the younger. Later, when the boys were grown, without regard for the benefits of the firstborn, Esau, the cunning hunter, swore to sell the birthright to the crafty Jacob for a meal of red stew. Through this hasty, shameful exchange Esau confirmed that he despised the birthright while Jacob cherished it. In this study we learn that God’s people are saved by His electing grace and receive His blessings by relinquishing control and trusting in Him alone to provide.
  1. God’s electing grace is determined before birth (vv. 19-26)
  2. God’s electing grace does not mitigate human responsibility (vv. 27-34)
