Fishers of Men | Mark 1:16-20

Mark 1:16-20 describes Jesus calling some of His earliest students, who were fishermen, to become “fishers of men”. Upon Jesus’ call, these fishermen immediately left their nets, family and companions to follow Jesus. The passage emphasizes Jesus’s initiative, authority and power to transform the lives of His disciples and illustrates the growing influence of the kingdom of God in the world. This event, occurring early in Jesus’ ministry, also highlights the importance of the work of evangelism in Jesus’ ministry plan.
