Called To Be Holy | 1 Peter 1:13-16
Immediately after his extended call for the church under suffering to rejoice because of the grace that has been poured out to them in Christ, Peter calls them to live a holy life. This is not an odd, out of place command, but one that stems from and must be the result of a believer’s new birth in Christ. By embracing this new identity believers will reflect God’s holy character in all their conduct and live out the true meaning of their redemption through Christ. In this lesson we learn that since we have been born again to God, we must leave behind our former ignorance and pursue holiness that reflects God’s own character.
- Holiness requires fully hoping in coming grace (v. 13)
- Holiness requires a break from your former ignorance (v. 14)
- Holiness requires consistency across all of life (v. 15)
- Holiness requires continually beholding God (v. 16)
