Where did people come from?
God created the first man, and his name was Adam (Gen. 2:20). God created him from the dust of the ground. It was not good that he was alone so God made a helper for him (Gen. 2:18), and she was made from Adam’s side (Gen. 2:21-23). This helper became his wife and her name was Eve (Gen. 3:20). It was God’s plan that a man would marry a woman (Gen. 2:24) and have children (Gen. 1:28). When God made them, both the man and woman were holy and happy.
What is a person?
All people have come from their first parents – Adam and Eve. All people are made in the image of God (James 3:9). This does not mean that we look like God, but it does mean that we are able to love, be kind, and be creative. God created people so that they would worship and obey Him (Is. 43:7). He has made all people with a soul and a body. The souls of people will last forever but their body will grow old and die. Because all people have been made in the image of God the life of all people is precious.
What is the fall of man?
After God made man and woman, they disobeyed Him. Even though God was very good to them, they were not grateful. They ate the fruit that God said they couldn’t eat (Gen. 3:6). After they disobeyed God, they changed from being holy and happy to being sinful and sad. This leaves every single person in a terrible and helpless situation. Every person is a sinner (Rom. 3:23), every person must be judged (Acts 17:31), and punished by God (John 3:36). But there is good news! Read the next chapter to find out.
