The Priorities of a Godly Father
The 3rd September is Father’s Day here in Australia. I’m sure many dads will enjoy receiving cards, gifts, and maybe celebratory meals from their children. No doubt for many dads their sock or chocolate supply will be replenished until Christmas. With this wonderful celebration going on over the weekend, I would like to take the time to reflect on the…
Eldership Induction Service
This coming Lord’s Day at Hills Bible Church will be an Eldership induction service. Two men will be welcomed into the Eldership before the congregation. This occasion will be a public setting apart of these men for this task and be a time in which the congregation is reminded of the role of Elders.
What is an Elder and what does he do? (1 Timothy 3:1)
The head of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 5:23; Col. 1:18). He purchased the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet. 1:18-19), He builds the church (Matt. 16:28) and He loves the church (Eph. 5:25).
An Elder’s Calling and Character
In an earlier post, I looked at what the Bible says concerning the meaning of an elder. In this post, I will consider what an elder’s calling and character is like. It is the duty of an elder to lead (1 Tim. 5:17; Heb. 13:17), teach (1 Tim. 3:2; 5:17), and shepherd (Acts 20:28-30; 1 Thess. 5:12-13; 1 Tim. 3:5; James 5:14; 1 Pet. 5:1-2) the congregation in a local…

He purchased the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet. 1:18-19), He builds the church (Matt. 16:28) and He loves the church (Eph. 5:25). Because the church belongs to Him, it is His right to determine what a church does and how it ought to function. As members of the church, we ought to strive…
Four Lessons from 1st Timothy
Written by Pastor Andrew Courtis A few weeks ago it was my privilege to finish a verse-by-verse exposition of Paul’s first letter to Timothy. I would like to share some key points and lessons I have learnt from this great letter. But first,a brief introduction. The first letter of Paul to Timothy provides us a clear understanding of a church’s confession and…
The Roles in Marriage: Husbands
What does the Lord require of a husband? Husbands are to make sure that they are fulfilling their role in leading their wives with love. Husbands are to love their wives just as Christ loves the church (Eph. 5:25). The word for love goes beyond romantic affection. This word has to do with an unconditional loyalty and commitment – a love that keeps on loving. This…
The Need for Effective Leadership
People will naturally follow someone that inspires them to be more successful in life, to strive to achieve all we can as a team and as individuals… to enjoy the successes together, and to support each other through struggles. Like so often in life, leaders can be seduced by short-term gain instead of long-term growth.
What makes an effective Church leader?
Church leadership makes or break the church. What are the characteristics essential for a leader/leadership to have within the church?
