The Glory of the Cross
That dark day Jesus was crucified brought glory to God. How did the cross display the glory of God? In John 12:24-36 we learn about three ways in which God’s glory was displayed at the cross.
Majesty Mocked
In Matthew 27 we have an account of a series of events that took place in the lead up to Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. One of the scenes we have in this chapter is the despicable and demeaning way the soldiers treated Jesus. To them, Jesus was just another criminal. Matthew records it as follows,
Born to Die
When Mary was informed that she was going to be with Child, she was told that His name shall be called “Jesus”. This name was not chosen because it had a nice sound to it, nor was it a matter of it being in the top 10 boys’ name for that year. The reason for this is because He “will save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21).
Contemplating the Cross
Many things in this world consume our minds and we can lead lives that are very busy leaving little time for contemplation. But this is damaging for us. Contemplation and consideration are important, especially when it comes to the things of God. The hymn writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748) wrote these amazing words in his hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,
