After ten days of waiting together, the promise of the Father (Acts 1:4) arrived as the Holy Spirit was poured out on each Apostle and faithful follower of Jesus. It was through this miraculous act that the church of Christ was born and His mission to take His gospel to every nation began. The Holy Spirit brought the necessary empowering, purifying, and enabling for them to be Christ’s ambassadors. Despite their previous hesitation, the disciples, and every follower of Christ since, would learn that it was indeed to their advantage that Jesus go away so the Helper might come (John 16:7). In this message we see three results of Pentecost:
- The Church is born (vv. 1-4)
- The Missions begins (vv. 5-10)
- Amazement and perplexity results (vv. 12-13)
