The Frenchman, Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), said, “All men seek happiness. This is without exception. Whatever different means they employ, they all tend to this end.” Everyone orientates their lives towards whatever makes them happiest. The Bible teaches and our own experience confirms that the happiness we most want isn’t found in anything on earth but is only found in Christ. The wisdom in Proverbs 8, which finds its complete fulfillment in Christ (1 Cor 1:24; Col 2:3), calls all people to listen to and take hold of her words, which have their origin before the beginning of creation and are right and never crooked, bringing true life and happiness. In this sermon we learn that the delightful splendor of Christ brings higher aims, richer rewards, and deeper joys than we could possibly contemplate.
