One of the most important things in understanding wisdom is understanding our own heart. In his fifth lecture, the father continues to impress upon his son the need to seek after, value, and hold on to wisdom, for in her true life is found and folly and sin are avoided. The father goes on to express the importance of the heart as the very spring from which all life flows (v. 23). Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the heart and know how we might guard it and allow God to transform it, as Jesus states, John 7:38, “living water” may flow from it in all areas of our life. From this message we learn that since all of life flows from the heart we are called to diligently guard it above all else.
